University of Queensland new leaders in rooftop solar

The University of Queensland has positioned itself as a solar leader, after it today officially unveiled Australia's largest rooftop solar panel system.

The 1.22 megawatt system comprises over five thousand solar grids and runs across four buildings at UQ's St Lucia campus in Brisbane.

It surpasses the previous record holder, the Adelaide Showground's Goyden Pavillion system, by almost 25%.

UQ's new system is big enough to power 5% of the University's peak power demand, and could supply up to 800 houses with electricity simultaneously.
