$1.3 billion wind farm for South Australia

Love Energy

South Australia's Yorke Peninsula will reportedly receive one of the world's biggest wind farms, following an announcement by Premier Mike Rann and Indian Wind Power company Suzlon Energy yesterday.

The group is planning to invest $1.3 billion in the Ceres Project, which will comprise 180 wind turbines on a site 20km south-west of the town of Ardrossan.

It will reportedly generate enough electricity to power 200,000 homes in South Australia, and reduce carbon dioxide output by 2.5 million tonnes each year.

The project is scheduled for completion in 2015, and will create 500 jobs throughout its construction.

Premier Mike Rann said the project would see South Australia well on its way to reaching its target of having 33% of all power from renewable energy by 2020.

Love Energy is encouraged by the South Australian Government's support of large scale renewable energy projects, and looks forward to the benefits that will be created from the Yorke Peninsula Wind Farm.
