Perth opens first desalination research facility

Love Energy

Australia's first dedicated desalination research facility opened in Perth yesterday at Murdoch University's Rockingham campus.

Waterworld is reporting that the $5 million facility will provide a base for researching new technologies in the field of desalination, including the use of solar power.

Desalination plants convert sea water into drinking water, and Australia's current six major coastal desalination plants have the ability to supply 35% of major capital cities' water.

Last week Love Energy reported Western Australia's Southern Seawater Desalination Plant will be offset by the planned Greenough River Solar Plant and Mumbida Wind Farm.

GE Financial Services and Verve Energy will each own a 50 percent stake in the 10 megawatt solar plant, which is scheduled for completion in late 2011.

Love Energy is excited by the solar developments in Western Australia, and is committed to providing Perth residents with a top quality rooftop solar panel system to suit their specific needs.
