SA's renewable energy target boosted

Love Energy

AdelaideNow is reporting that South Australia's renewable energy target will be increased under Premier Mike Rann's updated State Strategic Plan.

The current target is to have 20% of the state's energy coming from renewable sources like solar and wind power by 2014, however this has been revised to 33% by 2020.

South Australia is currently Australia's largest producer of wind energy, accounting for over half over the country's total production.

Love Energy is encouraged by the support that has been placed in renewable energy and solar in South Australia; this announcement will see the state's target surpass both Queensland and Western Australia.

Last week Love Energy reported Western Australia is currently not on track to reach their renewable target of 20% by 2020, however the purchases of the Greenough River Solar Plant and Mumbida Wind Farm will be significant boosts for the state.

Queensland meanwhile is well on its way to reaching its major target of 20% by 2020 after they smashed their solar goal in July, almost three years ahead of schedule.

Nice one by the Prem! Always love hearing that South Australia are leading the way, but it's especially great to see us doing it in the renewable energy business. The challenge has been set for the rest of the country!
