Kangaroo Island looks to solar

The Islander reports Kangaroo Island is investigating the possibility of establishing the island's first community-owned solar energy project.
Regional Development Australia (RDA) Hills and Coast has been given a $250,000 grant to study the possibility of bringing solar and wind power to Kangaroo Island.
If the project is established, it could supply up to one third of the island's entire power supply.
RDA strategy director Terry Lee said the community-owned renewable energy scheme was based on the Hepburn Wind model in Victoria, where the community raised $9 million to build and manage their own energy company.
Kangaroo Island lies 13km off South Australia's Fleurieu Peninsula, and currently receives electricity via cable from the mainland.
Love Energy is excited by the economic and social opportunities that solar and renewable energy opens up for rural and remote communities.
As well as servicing metropolitan areas, Love Energy also installs in country regions; so call Love Energy today to hear how a quality solar power system could improve your home or business.

Very cool, love the thought of the Island going 'off the grid' and being more self sufficient. A great example to more regional areas.
