Mount Surmon Wines, SA

The requirement

Burt and Jeni Surmon, wanted to reduce the running cost of a busy and productive winery. They also wanted to generate a passive income to their overall business and residence as a long term objective. They were also very interested in being environmentally sustainable in the benefits of running a “green” winery.

The project

The Surmon’s requirements were fairly substantial with the vineyard, cellar door and Surmon residence all needing to be powered by an efficient system. They had a large roof space, which was facing the optimal North direction. The design allowed for a system that not only covered their current usage, but allowed for any future expansions.

The quality result 

At the time of purchase Burt and Jeni Surmon’s normal electricity bill was approximately $1000 per quarter. Their 10kW Love Energy Solar Power System has generated and met all of their cellar door and vineyard’s electricity needs, PLUS feed in surplus electricity back into the national grid.

With the 10kW power system on the roof their power consumption for 91 days from January 21 to April 21 for the vineyard, cellar door and residence was covered and in addition they received a cheque for $1591.96. 

With this excess electricity having generated $1591.96 between January 2011 and April 2011, over 17 years it would generate approximately $108,253 of additional revenue for the Surmons.
